The English Premier League is one of the most watched sports on the planet. When Optus acquired the broadcasting rights it also gained the opportunity to offer a range of value-added services to enhance consumers football watching experience.
In the Lab we've been testing and trialling a machine learning algorithm which takes hundreds of data points and turns them into a percentile of confidence for the result of each game. This coupled with a 'fantasy sports' game allowed players to 'take on the Bot' and see if they can predict the results better than an algorithm.
The trial very quickly generated a highly engaged beta group of football fanatics and new-comers to the sport to play and challenge the Bot. The trial will run through to December and be reviewed for the 2017/18 season.
